The piece of media I am reviewing is the music video ¨By Now” by Marianas Trench. I've loved this song and video for years now and I love the message it is portraying. Personally, I don't think the song matches to the music video or the message, but it doesn't matter. Before the song starts and in the middle of it, the lead singer, Josh Ramsay, makes a ¨speech¨ that really puts the music video into perspective. He says in the middle of the song, ¨how long had we been spinning out of control? You lose yourself to sex and money. You lose yourself to a dream. Then when you wake up from that dream, you don't know when the dream ends, and real life begins.¨ I absolutely love that passage because it is so true. I think Josh is saying that as people in the 21st century, we are getting too caught up in our own fantasy worlds and cannot see reality. That we get so consumed in technology and our imaginations that we don't even realize that were not in reality. In the music video, Josh is with this girl and they are a crazy messed up couple. He realizes that he isn't himself and he didn't even realize what he turned into. I know from following the band that Josh has dealt with some addiction problems and depression so this song is really personal to him and the story being told is from a good place.
