Sadie Hawkins-- Relient K

When I was first told about this assignment I knew I wanted to do a song, the problem was picking one. After a few moments of thinking, I decided to pick the song that really shaped my taste in music, and kind of shaped me. Now, this song is no longer on my playlist and I haven’t heard it in a very long time but it’s still very important to me and my identity. The song “Sadie Hawkins” by Relient K was first introduced to me by my close friend Sara in 7th grade. It’s a dumb song, kind of irrelevant really, but at the time I couldn’t get enough of the sound. It was light and fun but still didn't sound like anything I've heard before. The song would be classified under the category ‘pop punk’ and when I discovered that, I did a ton of research and looked around for more music like it. Of course I was only 12 or 13; but we were all 12 or 13 and that’s the time when we were trying to figure out who we are. So I, like a tone of other 12 or 13 year olds, turned to pop punk for the feeling that someone understands what we’re going through even though we weren't going through anything other than puberty.

  1. You know, I feel like we all have that one song that we're obsessed with and we feel like understands us even if we don't even know what it's about so I totally get where you're coming from.

  2. I love how old songs can bring you back to a specific time in your life. I have a lot of songs like this :)
