Dear God
By Avenged Sevenfold
Lyrics:
A lonely road, crossed another cold state line
Miles away from those I love purpose undefined
While I recall all the words you spoke to me
Can't help but wish that I was there
And where I'd love to be, oh yeah
Dear God the only thing I ask of you is
To hold her when I'm not around
When I'm much too far away
We all need that person who can be true to you
But I left her when I found her
And now I wish I'd stayed
'Cause I'm lonely and I'm tired
I'm missing you again oh no
Once again
There's nothing here for me on this barren road
There's no one here while the city sleeps
And all the shops are closed
Can't help but think of the times I've had with you
Pictures and some memories will have to help me through, oh yeah
Dear God the only thing I ask of you is to hold her when I'm not around
When I'm much too far away
We all need that person who can be true to you
I left her when I found her
And now I wish I'd stayed
'Cause I'm lonely and I'm tired
I'm missing you again oh no
Once again
Some search, never finding a way
Before long, they waste away
I found you, something told me to stay
I gave in, to selfish ways
And how I miss someone to hold
When hope begins to fade
A lonely road, crossed another cold state line
Miles away from those I love purpose undefined
Dear God the only thing I ask of you is to hold her when I'm not around
When I'm much too far away
We all need the person who can be true to you
I left her when I found her
And now I wish I'd stayed
'Cause I'm lonely and I'm tired
I'm missing you again oh no
Once again
My Interpretation:
There’s another song by them called seize the day and in that song it’s how he left his pregnant wife/girlfriend to go rob a bank and in the altercation gets left behind and captured by the police. His wife/girlfriend then later dies in a car crash. What leads me to believe this is that he says “I left her when I found her, And now I wish I'd stayed” and “I'm missing you again”. So this song, Dear God, has led me to believe that it is a continuation of Seize the Day. Dear God is almost like he’s praying to God to forgive him for what he has done and that she shouldn’t have been punished for his mistakes and all that he asks is that welcome her with open arms and to take care of her while he can not. How it’s impacted me is not only can mistakes ruin precious opportunities, but if you don’t spend a lot of time with someone you care about and something bad happens to them, such as death, you feel terrible and blame yourself for not telling them how much they meant to you. Words that could’ve been said now left unspoken, and moments missed all because of poor mistakes and or not caring.
Beautiful
ReplyDeleteI like their song Hail to the King, but those lyrics are deepful and portrays a message
ReplyDeleteWow really inspirational lyrics, I cans see why you used them even though the story is sad. And i can see why the impact of death can affect the persons feeling in a way that they can blame themselves. Great choice Josh.

ReplyDeleteLooks like a great song -- the lyrics are fascinating. Is this biographical or are they just creating a meaningful story?

this is saying some search for their one true love but end up failing and dying out. He found his true love and knew he should stay but wanted to tour instead and is now greatly wishing he hadn't because he doesn't have her with him and is starting to lose hope that this tour is worth something which leads me to believe that it can be biographical in a sense that he misses his girl while performing these concerts.
